Meet Phil
A mechanical engineer by training, as well as a certified marina manager, Phil Blake has been operating multi-award-winning large yacht marinas and yacht clubs for the past 20 years across the geographical, cultural and regulatory diversity of the United States, Caribbean, Middle East and South East Asia. He most recently operated a flagship superyacht marina in the Caribbean for seven years. Now, as senior director of a marina developer & operator in the Red Sea, Phil is uniquely placed at the crossroads between the Mediterranean, Asia and Oceania.
As well as hosting the Middle East’s second-largest and second-busiest port, the city is also home to Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina and the adjoining Formula-1 race track. JYC can host and bunker large yachts up to 100+m, and is 20 minutes’ drive from King Abdulaziz International Airport.
Historic Jeddah is situated on the eastern shore of the Red Sea. From the 7th century AD it was established as a major port for Indian Ocean trade routes, channelling goods to Mecca. It was also the gateway for Muslim pilgrims to Mecca who arrived by sea.
Jeddah hosts the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Al Balad, which characterizes a distinctive architectural tradition, including tower houses built in the late 19th century by the city’s mercantile elites, and combining Red Sea coastal coral building traditions with influences and crafts from along the trade routes.
