I am Cynthia Rasch, the CEO of Port Denarau Marina. Since joining the marina in 2011 as the Business Manager and progressing to the role of General Manager in 2017, I have been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the marina’s overall success. As the CEO, I oversee a wide range of tasks, including delegating and directing agendas, driving profitability, communicating with the board and the team, and leading the development and execution of long-term strategies aimed at increasing shareholder value.
My journey with Port Denarau Marina took a significant turn in August 2019 when the marina became publicly listed on the South Pacific Stock Exchange, and I assumed the position of CEO. It has been an incredible experience, and I am proud to contribute to the growth and development of this esteemed marina.
My educational background includes a Post Graduate Certificate in General Management, and I am currently working towards completing my Masters in Business Administration. In 2019, I achieved a significant milestone as the first and only Pacific Islander to attain the globally accredited Certified Marina Manager (CMM) certification, a recognition I maintain annually.
Throughout my tenure, I have led numerous strategic initiatives that have had a positive impact on various aspects of the business. By driving down costs, increasing revenue, and improving overall performance, we have achieved remarkable results. One notable achievement was my role in architecting the Blue Lanes Framework. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, this initiative allowed Fiji to open its maritime borders to foreign yachts in July 2020. I continued working closely with the government, adapting protocols, and contributing to easing maritime entry requirements until March 2022.
My efforts have been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the 2022 International Day for Women in Maritime Excellence Award by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Fiji Women in Maritime Association (FJWIMA), the Ocean Cruising Club 2021 OCC South Pacific Award, and the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Dixon Seeto Tourism Leader 2022 award. These honors serve as a testament to my dedication and commitment to the industry.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I devote a considerable amount of time to advocating and mentoring for the maritime sector in Fiji. I actively participate in community initiatives such as the Denarau Blood drive, NCD awareness campaigns, and vaccination drives. In March 2021, I took on the role of Chair for the Fiji Hotel Tourism Association (FHTA) Marine & Yachting Sub-Committee, contributing my expertise to the growth and development of the tourism industry.
Moreover, I am a proud founder of the Oceanlovers Fiji Education & Awareness Program, an initiative focused on raising awareness about marine conservation and education. As an active member of the Women in Maritime Association, I strive to elevate the profile of women in the maritime industry and promote gender diversity.
Prior to my journey in the maritime industry, I had the privilege of advancing through various promotions within the telecommunications industry over a decade. This experience provided me with valuable insights and skills that have been instrumental in my role at Port Denarau Marina.
I am honored to lead a dedicated team and work alongside industry professionals who are equally passionate about delivering exceptional experiences. Together, we continue to steer Port Denarau Marina towards new heights, ensuring that our guests and stakeholders enjoy a world-class maritime facility.
