|ISS February 2018 Newsletter 2/1/2018|
By Dieter Jaenicke, ISS President
As of 01 January 2018, I am honoured to have taken over the wheel as President of the ISS, stepping into the very big shoes vacated by Bob Saxon at the end of 2017.
First, I must thank Bob for his vital stewardship in 2017, jumping in to keep the ISS on the intended track, re-energising committees and expanding our international influence and scope, all culminating most visibly in an outstanding Gala at FLIBS 2017.
As we start this year, I see my challenge as President to accelerate and expand all that energy, enthusiasm and tangible progress.
May I ask each of you to help me by getting involved as much as you can? The most fundamental support is getting the word out to our industry about what ISS is doing and encouraging new membership.
• To ensure sustainability and excellence in the global yacht industry
That Miami meeting is very important, by the way.
At the last board meeting, it was confirmed that we will go forward with expanding the events we hold at the Monaco Yacht Show, moving some of our focus to Europe. To show that commitment, it was decided to try to make the first major move in that direction in 2018 at MYS, if at all feasible. A team is investigating the feasibility and will deliver their report in February.
We must not forget that the ISS is member-driven and reliant on the volunteer work of our Board of Directors, committee chairs and regular members supported by our marketing and administrative staff.
Essential to the ISS being able to meet its mission and progress initiatives that benefit the large yacht industry worldwide is the funding which comes from membership dues and the support of a growing list of enthusiastic sponsors.
I would like to thank you all—our members and sponsors—who have supported us over the past 29 years, contributing your time, talents and resources that allow the ISS to continue.
Please feel free to contact me anytime.
2018 Board of Directors Election
As an ISS member, a primary benefit is voting and the impact it has on the governance and initiative of the superyacht industry.
Each January, ISS membership votes for eight individuals to join the ISS Board of Directors for three-year tenures. The job of the Board is to sustain the Society, to prioritize initiatives, and to provide vision and strategic planning for actions undertaken each year for the good of the industry.
Each year’s ballot represents both end-of-term directors and nominees as submitted by members, another privilege membership affords.
As is always the case, the 2018 ballot includes the large yacht industry’s most compelling people.

ISS’s YachtInfo Expands in 2018
The hard-working ISS Education Committee is off to an exciting start in 2018, expanding our events globally.
Focused as always on education relevant to our members, new initiatives in cooperation with other industry organisations will find YachtInfo happening this year across more venues around the world.
In 2017, YachtInfo successes at Monaco and FLIBS featured a popular new format: single subject seminar followed by a networking reception, aboard a yacht, with panels including yacht crew, captains and owners.
Created and led by ISS VP Captain Glen Allen, ISS Education Committee and the fabulous Fleet Miami team, supported by sponsors Bluewater, Royal Huisman and Informa, the next editions of YachtInfo in the USA will be held during the upcoming the 2018 Miami and Palm Beach shows, including member cocktail networking, a hospitality lounge, and show tours by water hosted aboard yacht Usher.
Additionally, plans are underway for more European YachtInfo events throughout 2018 in combination with pop-up events run by Viking Recruitment in locations including Palma, Bremen, Viareggio and Antibes.
Farther afield, a sequel to previous successful ISS events in Singapore is being organised, and discussions are being led by Education Committee Chair, Bransom Bean with potential organisers and sponsors for brand new events in Australia and Brazil.
Finally, ISS Ambassador Norma Trease has opened doors to resume collaboration with the PYA and other organisations who share the same drive to keep education at the forefront. Watch this space for more updates.
ISS Sponsorship—A Branding Partnership
Sponsorship offers are bountiful and platforms plentiful. At ISS, we go further, ensuring that our relationship with individual sponsors offers a unique opportunity to build brand awareness.
Many companies in our industry support the ISS through membership. For some there is a desire to go a step further.
Like many not-for-profit organizations, much of ISS’s work on behalf of members and the global industry is made possible through sponsors. The lion’s share of funding for all our programs and for our paid staff is through the backing sponsorship affords. In fact, we rely on sponsorships to provide elegant programming.
With the steadfast commitment of perennial supporters—and the foresight of new sponsors—ISS continues to create networking events, establish and fulfil international Initiatives, expand educational forums and recognize excellence.
What we are most proud of is our excellent relationships with our sponsors. Ours is not a program based on sending us a check or wire for an event or undertaking; it’s a partnership that is mutually beneficial and based on mutual respect.
ISS sponsorship is tiered with Destination, Platinum, Gold, Design Award, Silver, Bronze and Supporting levels representing title events, initiatives, design, member events, education and a desire to support beyond membership dues, respectively. Each level has incumbent benefits, including tickets for the gala, website visibility, press releases and more. At the higher levels sponsorship is further tailored with Destination, Platinum and Gold tiers enjoying customization of the participating company’s benefits.
The ISS Board of Directors and staff are well-known and well-versed in nurturing and promoting our partnerships through sponsorship. Contact Amy Halsted—firstname.lastname@example.org— today to find out the great ROI in partnering with us.
Thank You 2017 ISS Sponsors!
